CS2P13-65 WITH SSC13-65

Each one size of SSD closed end covers are for all units. However, SSC open covers have different bore sizes for CX (SN & SAF) units from CS & CXC units. CX inserts are one size bigger than CS & CXC inserts to accomodate with the standard adapter sleeves. Please check in detail at https://www.crossocean.com/ssc-covers/

Installing SSC covers is very simple.

1. Make sure that the shaft is dry and free from grease or oil.

2. Lubricate the lip of the V-ring with a thin film of grease or silicone oil.

3. Slide V-ring along the shaft by applying pressure and rotating shaft by hand.

Our Saniline housings have the bearing slots in front for attaching our safety covers and we don’t want them in the back of housing at the same time. Our safety covers are very easy to install and uninstall by hand, the bearing slots facing forward are easily washed out.

The bearing slots of standard bearing units are on the backside of housing and they can be contamination harbor points because of the difficulty to wash them out.

Our Cathodic electrodeposition (CED) coating for our steel covers has excellent corrosion resistance and is environmentally friendly.  The laser marking however doesn’t have that same corrosion resistance.  As we don’t like to see the rusted sea turtle logo on the cover we changed it to a pressed logo of COC.  The sea turtle logo is just a bit too complicated for a pressed mold.

LOCK NUT vs CROSSLOC

The adapter locking engages by moving adapter sleeve. The tapered O.D. sleeve moves between the tapered bore inner ring and the shaft to hold the shaft in place. That is usually done by tightening the lock nut to push or pull the adapter sleeve.

It is very difficult to tighten the lock nut of wide inner ring unitized adapter locking systems. It’s sometimes almost impossible to tighten as per their instructions’ turns.

Our CROSSLOC is a lot easier to move the adapter sleeve by tightening cap screws. The possible reasons are below.

CROSSLOC CX

• The CX bearing is one size bigger than CS set screw lock bearing to accommodate the standard adapter sleeve.

• Small cap screws are easy to tighten with a hex key. The force of pushing the adapter sleeve by tightening it in a star pattern is a lot larger than by tightening the lock nut.

OPEN COVERS FOR SRB UNITS

Our bearings will last long and CROSSLOC™ nuts can rust sometimes by rain in outside applications.

The new open steel cover with V-ring seal will protect from the dirt and water. This new open cover is being added to our existing end closed covers and will protect better for those applications.

The molded rubber V-ring seal is press-fit on the shaft and rotates with shaft. The seal lip contacts on the cover not the shaft, so the shaft doesn’t get any damage from the seal lip.

Due to the tapered seal contact area of the open cover, the seal lip maintains full contact even when misaligned.

When the Open cover is used with the bearing with labyrinth seals for high speed, make a space between the seal lip and open cover to keep it from contacting. The V-ring seal will be an extra barrier as a flinger.

The open cover has the plugged drain hole and you can take the plug out for the labyrinth seal applications to drain ingressed water.

New open covers will be available from March 2022.
