MOUNT:

1. Make sure there is no load on the bearing and all cap screws are loose.

2. Tighten cap screws in a star pattern as seen above. Repeat.

3. When using a torque wrench, first tighten each cap screw to 50 percent of the specified torque value, and then tighten them again to the full 100 percent torque value. Make sure to use a star pattern both times.

Note: The adapter sleeve must be pulled outward to lock the bearing. CX CROSSLOC™ uses left-hand threaded cap screws, which are turned clockwise to pull the sleeve outward. As the cap screws are tightened, the gap between the two nuts increases and the adapter sleeve moves outward. The outer nut must remain parallel to the inner nut to prevent the cap screws from twisting or being damaged. This is why the cap screws must be tightened repeatedly in a star pattern. Several passes may be required to tighten all cap screws evenly.

DISMOUNT:

1. Make sure there is no load on the bearing, then loosen all cap screws until they are free.

2. Turn the cap screws counterclockwise in a star pattern. Repeat until the bearing is released.

Note: To unlock CROSSLOC™, two steps are required: loosening and then turning the cap screws counterclockwise. Although both involve counterclockwise rotation, they serve different purposes. First, loosen all cap screws until they are free. Then continue turning the cap screws counterclockwise to push the outer nut and release the adapter sleeve from the inner ring. Turn the cap screws in a star pattern and repeat until the bearing is released. As with locking, make sure the outer nut moves evenly and remains parallel.

Recommended Shaft Tolerance : -0.006 in. / -0.152 mm

If the shaft diameter is smaller than the specified tolerance above, try rotating the CROSSLOC™ nut clockwise to reduce the sleeve inner diameter and adjust the fit.

 

FIXED TO EXPANSION

When your application needs to be able to accommodate thermal expansion of the shafting, use only one fixed bearing on each shaft.
To convert the unit to an expansion type, remove the upper half of the housing and take out the locating ring.
The tightening torque for the split housing cap bolts is 406 ft-lbs (550 Nm). After tightening, rotate the bearing by hand to ensure it turns freely without resistance.
